Application Checklist
- Full Name
- Current year of study (1st or 2nd)
- Indicate a 1st and 2nd choice preference for roles on the Manchester Historian
- 100-300 words on why you want the role and why you think you’d be good at it
- Please indicate if you are currently on a semester abroad
- Please indicate if you are currently scheduled to go abroad next year (please indicate which semester this is for)
- Email the application from an email address you check regularly so you can see what position you get.
- Email the application to manchesterhistorian@gmail.com by Monday 13th May, 5pm.

Role Descriptions
Editor (x2)
Responsible for:-
- Supervision of all teams (copy-editing, layout, marketing, advertising and web management) within the Manchester Historian and to ensure they are regularly communicated with through email, Facebook and face to face meetings
- Selecting articles (including approving/rejecting article ideas submitted by students), commissioning of articles and managing additional features/elements of the paper
- Financial management of the paper and supervising the Manchester Historian bank account
- Liaising with staff in the department about developments and progress within the paper
- Organising the printing of each issue and setting deadlines for article writing, advert input, copy-editing and publication
- Responding and dealing with all queries to the Manchester Historian email account, Facebook page and Twitter feed
Head of Layout (x1)
Responsible for:-
- Overseeing the layout team and ensuring regular communication between the members
- Using InDesign in the Graphics Suite on campus to construct each issue’s layout (incl. advert placement)
- Choosing suitable styles and images where necessary for each article
- Liaising with the editors for a final edit and meeting publication deadlines
Layout Team (x2)
- Assisting the head of layout in completing his/her duties
- Using InDesign in the Graphics Suite to aid construction of each issue
Head of Copyediting (x1)
Responsible for:-
- Overseeing the copyediting team and ensuring regular communication between the members
- Ensuring all articles are copyedited to a high standard before returning them to the editors
- Ensuring copyediting deadlines are met and work is distributed evenly between the copyediting team
Copyediting Team (x3)
- Assisting the head of copyediting in completing his/her duties
- Ensuring copyediting deadlines are met and articles are copyedited to a high standard
Head of Marketing (x1)
Responsible for:-
- Overseeing the marketing team and ensuring regular communication between the members
- Creating and placing of posters and promotional material around campus for issue publication dates, side projects associated with the paper such as Our Histories and opportunities within the paper
- Using social media to ensure regular updates about the paper are sent to the public
- Creating new strategies for promoting the paper and getting more students involved
- Using lecture timetables to determine where to distribute new issues of the Manchester Historian
Marketing Team (x3)
- Assisting the head of marketing in completing his/her duties
- Creation of new strategies to promote the paper and to get more students involved
- Distribution of the issue in lectures and around campus
